Context
Problem
For first-time home buyers, understanding affordability often depended on rough estimates, online calculators, and advice from friends or family. Buyers arrived at advisor meetings with unrealistic expectations, turning conversations into clarification sessions instead of meaningful financial planning.
Approach
We worked with customer-facing teams and over 40 domain experts to understand where expectations broke down and when buyers were most receptive to guidance. Rather than improving the advisor experience alone, we identified an opportunity to help buyers build confidence before their first meeting.
Solution
An early-stage affordability experience that helped buyers evaluate a home using their own financial context. By aligning buyer expectations before speaking with an advisor, the experience supported more confident decisions and more productive conversations.
We designed for the moment when buyers are most engaged, before confusion slows decisions and conversations
This early-stage experience helps first-time buyers understand whether a specific home fits their budget. It aligns buyers and advisors before their first meeting. Here's how it works.
When buyers find a home they’re interested in, they paste the listing link and instantly see the full costs they would need to plan for.
Engineers needed to cut through a large network quickly: by time range, region, subscriber type, service, KPI category, or network layer. Global filters and session history worked together to narrow the investigation to the moments and conditions that mattered.
Outcomes & Learnings
The experience gave first-time buyers a clearer view of what they could realistically afford, helping them compare options and have more focused conversations with mortgage advisors.
